We’re developing a radically-new, instrument-free platform for single-cell sequencing with disruptive throughput and experimental ease. We’re growing our Cambridge Bioinformatics and Software team to help launch a new era of cellular analysis for research and medicine.

Position Summary

We are building our Software team from scratch and are looking for an exceptional Software Developer. The Software team will be charged with developing and building a cutting edge software suite (both standalone and web-based) to support and facilitate CS Genetics’ genomics-technology products, and to serve as high-powered internal infrastructure to advance our ongoing R&D activities.

The ideal candidate will be a rigorous, analytical and organised professional with significant experience in building production software products. They will be familiar with modern web and Cloud technologies. Our Software Developer will be routinely interacting with our genomics R&D team (including computational biologists and experimental scientists) to collect requirements and create state-of-the-art, user-friendly software tools. As CS Genetics’ product lines mature and evolve, candidates in this position will be exposed to a variety of new technologies and will be asked to develop new tools to support and accelerate our cutting-edge R&D efforts. This role will report to our Lead Software Developer.

Key Responsibilities

• Help develop CS Genetics’ Cloud (GCP or AWS) infrastructure for internal bioinformatics pipelines
• Help develop a cutting edge standalone and web-based software suite to facilitate the adoption and use of CS Genetics’ technology products
• Interact with CS Genetics’ R&D team to collect requirements
• Communicate internally via oral updates, written reports, and technical meetings

Required Skills and Background

• Core computer science concepts and practices
• Linux based operating systems, libraries, and tools
• Experience in developing production software tools
• Very strong independent programming ability (preferably Python)
• JavaScript, frontend development and frameworks (e.g. Angular, Django, React)
• Containerisation and cloud deployments (GCP, AWS)
• Kubernetes and microservices architecture
• Build and deployment tools and processes, testing, CI/CD
• Version control tools
• Agile methodologies, code review
• Enthusiasm for a demanding, fast-paced role in a small-startup environment

Desired Skills and Background

• Web Services (REST)
• MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Relational Databases
• Bioinformatics workflow tools (e.g. Nextflow or Snakemake)
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
